Born in Prague in 1949, Borek Sipekstudied interior design and architecture in Europe. In 1983 he moved to Amsterdam where he opened an architecture and design studio. Since then, he has received numerous prestigious awards for his spectacular and imaginative baroque style, like the “Croix Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres” from the French government in 1991, and the “Prins Bernard Fons Prize for architecture and the applied arts” in 1993.
His work is included in private collections as well as in museum collections all around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Corning Museum of Glass in New York and the Denver Art Museum.
Borek Sipek is currently working on the design of a memorial dedicated to the victims of slavery in Senegal. This project is under the patronage of Oprah Winfrey and Barack Obama.
